When Mark and I started out on our journey to get float tanks approved in TN, we would jokingly declare we were starting a floatation revolution!
The dictionary defines a revolution as a sudden, complete or marked change in something.
My introduction to the float tank was a revolution. I had been living with chronic pain and for a few weeks after my float the way I was able to interact with people, my work and daily life was radically different.
I smiled, I was present, I was more vocal about what I wanted and didn’t want. I stopped apologizing for pain I had no control over. I did things I would have normally put off.
I believe floating can be a personal revolution for everyone. It’s taking control of the chaos around us and putting it in its place. It’s taking control of your life.
For some the change isn’t always overt or sudden. Sometimes we let the chaos win and get so distracted by the outside stuff that we miss the chance to take advantage of the revolution that just got started inside of us during the moments of nothingness in the tank.
“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can't be any large-scale revolution until there's a personal revolution, on an individual level. It's got to happen inside first.”
― Jim Morrison
When you step out of the tank you have a choice. Will you be swept up into the chaos?
Or will you choose freedom?
Start your personal revolution right then and there. Stay firmly rooted in reality. Stay mindful and aware. Notice everything.
Maybe the tea tastes amazing (and you weren’t even a tea drinker!), the night sky more luminous, you drive home without beeping your horn or saying one single swear word at another driver, you have the deepest sleep ever and when you get out of bed it doesn’t take as much effort as the day before. And that problem you couldn’t figure out how to solve just flows right into place.
One year ago, on August 19, 2013 we were approved to bring float tanks to the public for the first time in the state of TN. This year we are taking the day to celebrate the freedom to float.
There are still floats available. Why not join us? This may be the start of your own personal revolution.
